Civic Leadership Conference

The Annual Civic Leadership Conference at the New Jersey State House in Trenton on Saturday, March 1st welcomed over 50 girls and leaders to a day of defining leadership and learning the importance of civic duty. The girls took a tour of the State House, learning the history and architecture of the building while completing a scavenger hunt along the way.

Sitting in the Senate Chambers, the girls took on the role of Senators as they debated Senate Bill 426 (“Requires school districts to allow nonpublic school students to participate in interscholastic sports programs on resident district’s sports teams") and took a vote on the issue. The girls attended workshops, conducted by the Women in Leadership & Learning from TCNJ & Cranford Troop 40867 working on their Silver Project, that detailed the characteristics of a leader andd the difference between a Leader and a Boss.

Finally the girls sat in the Assembly Chambers while participating in a Q&A Panel session with assemblywomen, a county judge, and school principal that detailed their journey towards success and how they make civic contributions.
