Break the Grip of the Rip

Help Save Lives!
GSCSNJ and Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore are working together to “Break the Grip of the Rip”
This year there has already been 5 deaths attributed to rip currents and education is the key!

Check out the list of the beaches below, pick a beach to champion.
You will be sent a packet . Each packet contains
  •  Id tag
  •  Letter from Jon Miller of Stevens Institute
  • Instruction letter from Michelle Masarik GSJS
  • Evaluation form
  •  Pre addressed envelope
  • Enough Q Reader tags for the signs on your beach

 These are the beaches still in need as of June 28:
Atlantic City, Longport, Margate, Ventor, Avalon, Cape May, North Wildwood, Ocean City Sea Isle City, Stone Harbor(boro), Strathmere Beach-Upper Township, and Wildwood

When your evaluation is received Rip Current patches will be sent for all who participate.

Chase Community Giving

Chase wants to donate $5 million to local charities across the country—nominate GSCSNJ to be one of the charities!

Here’s how it will work:

Nominations: June 12, 2012 – July 9, 2012*
First they need to find out which charities mean the most to you. That’s where you’ve got an amazing opportunity to make your voice heard. Starting June 12, 2012, we need you, Chase customers & employees, to nominate GSCSNJ to have a chance to share in the grants. Find out more about nominating a charity.

Voting: September 6 – 19, 2012*
Then, we’ll move to a voting phase. Chase customers will get to vote for their favorite charities in 2 places. First vote here, and then again on Facebook. That means you’ll have an even bigger voice in helping to decide where the grants go. The charities with the most votes will share in $5 million in grants from Chase!

*Nominations will end on July 9, 2012 at 11:59:59 PM, ET. Voting will end September 19, 2012 at 11:59:59 PM, ET.

2013 Nestlé Very Best In Youth

Nestlé is thrilled to announce that the 2013 Nestlé Very Best In Youth competition launched online, and it is now underway!

To enter the competition, eligible students (ages: 14-18) must complete and submit their online application at before the November 8, 2012 deadline. We encourage applicants to apply early.

Winners of the Nestlé Very Best In Youth award receive lots of fabulous prizes, including:

· $1,000 to donate to the charity of their choice;

· An all-expense paid trip for them and a parent to attend the 4-day amazing awards ceremony in Los Angeles, CA in the summer of 2013; and

· Their story featured in the Nestlé Very Best In Youth publication.

Created in 1997 by Nestlé USA, the Nestlé Very Best In Youth program honors young people (between 14-18 years old) who have excelled academically and who are making a positive difference in their communities and around the world. Since its inception, Nestlé has honored more than 200 young people and donated more than $700,000 to organizations the students are involved in.

Are you a teen volunteering in the community? Or is there a young person you know who is bringing hope to others? We invite you to apply or nominate outstanding young people (ages 14-18) for this nationally recognized award.

Remember the deadline is November 8, 2012 but, don’t wait. There are several steps you’ll need to take to submit your entry.

Top Cookie Sellers Get a Surprise Visit from Council!

From a Girl Scout Daisy to a group of Girl Scout Cadettes, GSCSNJ's top sellers are leaders in financial literacy and entrepreneurship earning them recognition and two tickets to the BIG Celebration, featuring concerts with Grammy nominated Sara Bareilles, Joe Jonas from the Jonas Brothers and X-Factor contestant, Rachel Crow, access to a special viewing area for the concert and a “meet and greet.”

The six winners sold the most cookies in central & southern New Jersey and were surprised by the GSCSNJ Prize Patrol at their homes or troop meetings to learn about their amazing accomplishments.  The Girl Scout cookie program is the country’s largest entrepreneurial program for girls who learn goal setting, money management, business ethics, decision-making, and people skills as they participate in a major fundraiser for Girl Scout councils.
